I have been reading some more of Palestine by Joe Sacco, and honestly I
think I’ve reached a point where Ii am downright bored. I mean, it is a good
novel, but probably for someone that is really into Palestine, and conflicts
and people at that time after WWII. At the beginning I thought that at some
point the story would have a turn of events, or at least something distinctive
to it. But I guess there’s nothing more to expect of a novel made only to
display a reporters findings. But don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the book
isn’t interesting or well put together.
Actually, aside from the fact I
don’t quite like subject of the novel, I do believe it is put in such a way
that is entertaining and clear for the reader to grasp what is happening, and
the actual feelings provoked, even though they are not evidently exposed. This
is what I recently learned, is called closure; gathering pieces of what is been
given, and in our minds, unconsciously putting all the bits together to be able
to cognize the overall picture.
So decisively, I have chosen to
drop this reading and start out a new one. I gave it a chance, saw what it was
about, but the repetitiveness, I couldn’t deal with till the end. I did enjoy
the drawings and gained new knowledge of Palestine, and how it was truly in a exceedingly
bad place, and how the first intifada against the Israeli occupation affected numerous
lives. And I imagine that if I keep this reading that’s all I am going to get
out of it anyway.
